Victoria’s First Breastmilk Bank to open @ Mercy Hospital for Women
The Mercy Hospital for women has been working overtime to launch a much needed breast milk bank. There is only one currently in Queensland; and we are well and truly behind with the likes of Brazil which has the widest breast milk bank network in the world.
Much like a blood bank, a breast milk bank would help many little ones struggling to start their lives and the immense joy it would give to the parents.
Why? Do you ask; A mother may not be able to breastfeed because she or her baby is simply too sick. Other factors include the treatment for breast or other cancers, postnatal depression, gestational diabetes or the risk of transmitting infections or viruses.
Each year 6,000 babies are born at the mercy hospital for Women and 1250 are cared for in special care nursery and neo-natal intensive care unit.
Some of these treated babies do not have access to the benefits of colostrum (first milk or "immune milk") and breast milk. Breast milk assists them in their recovery and development.
Mercy Breastmilk Bank is currently in the development stages and is currently seeking financial donations to make this a reality so that sick and premature babies throughout victoria can have access to the benefits of breast milk.
As part of its commitment to such an amazing cause, Claire Francoise Salon is pleased to support the establishment of Victoria’s first breast milk bank at the Mercy Hospital for Women and create much needed awareness.

The World’s Greatest Shave!
The Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events. 100,000 people across the country will shave or colour their hair. Help to support people with blood cancers and to fund vital research.
One individual Pete Johns is on a crusade to raise $2000. So we thought we could help out. Pete decided what a good idea it would be to get his legs waxed to raise even more money! What a good idea, because that’s where we come in!
Pete has never had his legs waxed; so you can imagine the pain he will endure! So we are more than happy to inflict 'pain' on Pete for the sake of a good cause. He is getting his wax this Friday the 13.3.09!!!
This experience will be photographed and placed on his blog. So far Pete had raised $1512!
Help support a good cause and donate to Pete John’s waxing experience...click here

Global Warming - Cool It! & ACF Campaign & Information
In January 2007 we collaborated with marie claire's Cool It! campaign against global warming issues. During that month over 38% off our visitors clicked on the link and educated themselves about the effects of global warming and how to make a difference. This campaign & petition will be sent to the government which is run jointly with the Australian Conservation Foundation calling
for our Government to invest more in green energy.
The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) is an Australian organization which is run to educate and help people understand the necessities in creating a healthy environment through awareness and education. For 40 years they have become a strong voice for the environment, promoting solutions through research, consultation, education and partnerships. They work hand in hand with the community, business and government to protect, restore and sustain our environment.

Red Cross Blood Donation.
Did you know that only 3% of the population in Australia donate blood?
The gap between the number of blood donors and the number of Australians who need blood is set to widen, according to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS), unless Australians step up their efforts as blood donors.
Recent government forecasts suggest that demand for blood is expected to more than double in the next ten years. "The forecast increase in demand means that Australia will need around 2 million individual blood donations each year to ensure that people, young and old, have the lifesaving products they need to survive.
Now that's a scary thought. Most people think blood donations are used to help people who suffer traumatic incidents, such as car accidents or 3rd degree burns, or to be used in surgery. But in fact, the vast majority of blood donations go to people with major medical conditions such as cancer, heart disease, stomach and bowel disease, liver and kidney disease, people with hemophilia and to newborn babies and pregnant women.
Currently, a little more than half a million Australian blood donors give just over 1.2 million donations. Half a million donors represent around 3.5% of the eligible donor population, compared with an average of 4.4% for other comparable nations. "If the proportion of blood donors in Australia was equivalent to the international average, and if all those donors gave blood four times a year, then we would have sufficient donations to meet forecast demand.
Here at Claire Francoise we're trying to raise awareness and encourage our eligible clients to give blood four times a year. Together, as a community, we need to ensure there are sufficient blood and blood products, voluntarily given by Australia's donors, to meet the medical needs of our community. If we care enough about our community to give something back to it, being a blood donor, or becoming a blood donor, is a very practical way to show it.
To become a blood donor call 13 14 95, and make the commitment to give blood four times a year. To book your blood donation today call now: 13 14 95 or visit this link for more information www.donateblood.com.au
