How to Prevent & Remove Ingrown Hairs
22 Mar, 2015
Ingrown hairs can be a serious pest. But how do we get and them and how can we treat them? Ingrown hairs come about when the hair grows back in or sideways inside the follicle.
Certain habits can cause ingrowns and also make them worse.
For example most people tend to get ingrown in the armpits and pubic bikini area because the hair is courser.
However, excessive rubbing, crossing of the legs which causes hair to break just beneath the surface of the skin, tight elastic & lace briefs can all create the pesky ingrown. Even sweating can cause the skin to become irritated, and therefore we scratch. Even people who don’t wax, tweeze or shave can get an ingrown.
So, what’s the solution to getting rid of ingrowns?
Eradicating the main cause of ingrowns is the first thing. Some of the main culprits, causing ingrowns are:
- Over exfoliation
- Tight elastic
- Stockings & lace
- Excessive rubbing
- Poor waxing
- Depilatory creams
Some hair removal techniques can cause ingrowns, this can be attributed to poor waxing products, incorrect waxing techniques and little or no home care products being utilised. The bikini line is generally the main culprit for ingrowns due to the elasticity of the skin and the area subject to constant friction.
Home care is vital for combating and keeping ingrowns to a minimum. Choose an experienced waxing clinic that does not compromise on hygiene, product quality and has correctly administered techniques which will help reduce skin pulling and keep follicle irritation to a minimum.
You may be genetically predisposed to getting ingrown hairs due to having courser hair and or sensitive skin. Another highly effective option in the event your current hair removal method is still causing ingrowns is having your bikini line treated with IPL Hair Removal.
This will distort the hair follicle from growing back and whether it is an ingrown or not the pulse from the light will still get through and treat the hair.
We perform many IPL hair removal treatments in the bikini area and then wax and or clipper the middle area. This means you can keep a small pubic area section and if you change your mind you have the option but the sides and underneath are forever neat and ingrown free in the future.
