Frequently Asked Questions

Waxing FAQs

Are all beauty therapists qualified?

Claire Francoise therapists are fully trained in body waxing, professional spray tanning, tinting IPL and a range of skin services. All staff are put through accredited waxing courses and also receive in house training. We use the custom made hot waxes available and have developed the best techniques for men and women.

How long does Brazilian wax take?

Depending on the density of the hair growth, your waxing appointment will take between 15-30 minutes, for first timers allow 30 minutes. A little painful, yes, but with swift strong hands and an efficient therapist by your side, it will be over very quickly, the results are well worth it. Many clients say the top part of their genitalia is the most painful, the underneath and around the anus is one of the least painful part for both men and women.

At Claire Francoise we do a huge amount of Brazilian waxes each month. Your therapist will comfort and consult with you to find out how bare you want to go, and we will work within those guidelines. Not everyone goes "all the way" the first time.

How long will my waxing results last?

After a client's first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual's hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Heat stimulates the hair, therefore hair grows quicker in the summer months than in the winter. With regular waxing the length of time between treatments will increase. Continued regular waxing results in sparse hair re-growth over time.

What is a Brazilian wax?

Brazilian waxing is the hair removal in and around the perineum vagina and anus. Some people it can mean the removal of all the hair from the bikini area, and to others it might be just a strip, shape or triangle left on the front.

What type of wax do you use?

At Claire Francoise we make sure we don't use cheap and nasty wax. The quality of our waxes in both strip and hot contain titanium dioxide, which reduces skin trauma and redness, and specialised ingredients that will charm the skin and are all suited to skin types. There are many types of waxes, if salons are using a cheap wax, the price and experience of the therapist will usually reflect this. Our hot wax is applied first and has a rich creamy consistency. This tells you it will contain titanium dioxide the essential ingredient to making sure it's gentle and a clean finish will be the end result.

When is the best time to have a Brazilian wax?

The best time is to be waxed about a week after your menstrual cycle, try to avoid caffeine, nicotine, lack of sleep and stress as these can make you feel over sensitive during your treatment.

IPL FAQs

Am I a good candidate for IPL hair removal?

The ideal candidate for IPL hair removal has dark hair and fair skin. Darker skin absorbs more light, and lighter skin interferes less with the movement of the intense pulsed light into the hair follicle. Dark or tanned skins run a higher risk of pigmentation changes following the procedure.

Keep in mind that it's not impossible to treat darker skinned individuals. Dark skins require a test patch first and will require more visits using more conservative settings.

Are there any side effects to IPL hair removal?

After your treatment you can expect redness in the area. This usually lasts for a couple of hours but can last up to one day. You may feel like you have been sun burnt in the area and this normally takes about one day to subside.

For a few days afterwards there can be some slight scabbing which is normal. We recommend moisturizing with Aloe Vera as this can speed up the healing process.

Can I book in a spray tan after my IPL treatment?

It's not advised to have any tanning or body treatment for a least 1 week after as you need the skin to recover after the IPL treatment.

Can some medications effect IPL skin rejuvenation treatment?

There are some medications that may affect your IPL skin rejuvenation treatment.  Please advise if any of your medications are photosensitive for example Retin A and Roaccutane or any medications that can effect changes in pigmentation.

Does IPL hurt?

Some people describe the lasers pulse as a light tingling or stinging sensation as is usually no more painful than waxing or plucking a few hairs. The vast majority of people have no problems at all with the procedure.

Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others and a topical anesthesia may be used to decrease the sensation further more.

How does IPL hair removal work?

Lasers designed for hair removal emits light at wavelengths to be absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle (pigment gives hair its colour). The laser is then pulsed only for a fraction of a second.

The duration of each pulse is just long enough to disrupt the hair follicle. When the pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, energy is converted into heat and these results in thermal damage to the hair follicle. This thermal damage causes delayed re-growth of the hair resulting in permanent destruction of the hair follicle.

How does IPL skin rejuvenation work?

A cooling conductive gel is applied to the skin, then utilising the IPL Quantum, a concentrated white light is pulsed through the skin; causing little to no discomfort. Once the desired area is done, an after care product is applied. After the treatment, pigmentation looks darker, and can sometimes be a little red and raised. This takes about 5-8 days to flake off, leaving a much clearer looking skin.

How does the Quantum IPL system work?

The IPL Quantum HR eliminates hair, employing a method known as selective photothermolysis. This involves disabling hair growth mechanisms by raising the temperature of the hair follicle high enough to damage the follicles germinative cells without damaging the skin and surrounding surface.

How long do IPL treatments take?

Your Intense Pulsed Light treatment takes around the same amount of time as a wax treatment for the same area. The first visit will be around 30 minutes to perform as we need to do a patch test and ask you some questions.

How many IPL treatments will I need?

Hair grows in cycles. The IPL is effective on hair in its actively growing cycle. At any one time there will only be certain hairs in that growing phase. This means that consistent treatments at appropriate intervals are absolutely necessary for the best possible results.

This varies anywhere from 2-8 treatments. That said though, some clients have been very happy with the result after just a few treatments. From your test patch we can usually see how many more treatments it will take to achieve your desired result, which often averages out at about six.

What are the benefits of IPL skin rejuvenation?

IPL skin rejuvenation helps to restore, firm skin and clear the skin. IPL skin rejuvenating can be used to help restore skin clarity and condition.  It also promotes the production of new collagen, elastin, and helps increase cell repair for a more youthful and revitalized appearance.

What areas of the body can be treated with IPL?

Generally any part of the body can be treated. Exceptions include areas in close proximity to the eyes, the inner ear and nose. The most popular areas for hair removal are the underarms, bikini, upper lip, chin, face, legs, back & chest.

What do I do after my IPL skin rejuvenation treatment?

Your skin specialist will advise you of your post treatment care. Once the initial redness has calmed down you are able to resume with your normal activities. However, it is best to treat the area with care as you would a mild sunburn. Please avoid any use of prescription strength exfoliant creams, swimming pools, saunas, spas, with multiple chemicals/ chlorine saunas and vigorous perspiring activities. In the event multiple treatments are required p lease avoid in between and post treatments; sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily on areas being treated) and any solariums.

What is IPL skin rejuvenation?

IPL skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive skin procedure using an intense pulse light machine (IPL). IPL skin rejuvenation treatments can improve the texture, quality, colour and health of your skin. IPL is not a laser but a broad wavelength light that is pulsed onto the skin and can treat multiple conditions simultaneously; including broken veins and capillaries, redness of the skin, age spots, mottled pigmentation, benign brown pigment and freckles. Treatment can take place over the entire body with face, neck and décolletage being the most popular areas.

What results should I expect from IPL skin rejuvenation?

IPL skin rejuvenation treatments cover a wide range of skin aliments, results will vary from person to person, depending on skin type, age and nature of condition. IPL skin rejuvenation activates the natural collagen and elastic production in the active skin cells, thus improving the skin’s overall texture, tonality and complexion. It also improves the skin’s colour and texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and minimizes open pores.

What should I do prior to my IPL skin rejuvenation treatment?

To help minimise the possibility of any adverse skin and or side effects we strongly recommend avoiding the following for approximately 3 to 5 weeks prior to treatment. Sun exposure, an SPF 30+ is mandatory. No Solariums. Please don’t apply any fake tans, bronzers etc. beforehand. No prescription strength exfoliates. Please advise of all medications, skin creams or medication at the time of consultation.

What side effects can I expect from IPL skin rejuvenation?

Straight after a treatment most people experience some side effects and feel like a mild sunburn which is quite normal and soon calms down anywhere from the first 10 minutes up to an hour. Over the course of the treatment and first 24 hours you may experience a pigmental change. Damage to the skin is very rare however; if you are concerned at all, don’t hesitate to contact us as soon as possible

What side effects will I expect from having IPL hair removal?

Intense Pulsed Light converts light energy into heat, and the heat is what destroys the hair follicle. You experience a mild case of sunburn which not only usually passes quickly but this is also very common and like having a sunburn you would apply sunscreen and keep it under covers for a few days.

Why are Laser/IPL treatments so expensive?

This simple reason for this is due to the high acquisition cost of machines, maintenance and the materials used during these treatments are also very costly.

Why do I have to have many IPL treatments?

IPL targets the hair compound called melanin, this give hair the colour (pigmentation). Melanin is most prevalent in hair during the early-anagen phase of hair growth, and hairs in this stage of growth are the ones most susceptible to Intense Pulsed Light. Ongoing treatments are needed to catch each hair as it passes through this early-anagen stage of development.

Why do I require an IPL consultation?

Consultations are required before your IPL treatment to make sure IPL skin rejuvenation is for you. Not everyone can have IPL Skin Rejuvenation so we perform a small test patch to ensure you don't have any adverse reactions. We also go through the entire process with you and advise you on pre and post treatment care.

Will I have to come back for repeat treatments?

The reason for this varies from person to person generally this can happen due to hormonal changes, to hair can lay dormant for long periods or emerge for the first time as you arrive at a certain stages of life. Because of this you may be need to have a treatment every year or two.

Skin FAQs

After a Dermastamp treatment is their any home care recommended?

Use of a home care roller is recommended to support skin stimulation & product penetration- use every 2 days to further boost results

Can Dermstamp be performed on any skin colour?

Since we are not using heat, yes the Dermastamp can be used on any skin colour and skin type.

How does the Dermastamp Treatment Work?

The Dermastamp is a vibrational stamping device, unlike a manual handheld roller. Dermastamp uses very fine needles to promote skin stimulation and skin rejuvenation. This is unlike any heat based technology as there is no skin burning and skin coagulation. The side effects are dramatically reduced and the risk, almost zero.

How is the Dermastamp procedure performed, and does it hurt?

The skin is cleaned and sterilized. Generally the skin will need to be numbed to ensure your comfort. Therefore the treatment is considered painless. The tip will glide over your skin creating stimulating channels and an even flushing is the best indication for a perfect medical treatment. The treatment usually takes around 1.5 hours in total

How long before I see results after a Dermastamp treatment?

You will notice a fresher skin within 6 weeks. However your skin will continue to improve over 6-12mths.

How often can I have a Dermastamp treatment?

Collagen & Skin Rejuvenation - Recommended 4-6 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. Scars & Acne Scarring - Recommended 6-12 treatments, 4-5 weeks apart

How often should I have a facial service?

Roughly every four to six weeks is an ideal time frame between visits. This is especially ideal for someone who wants to take good care of their skin. Making sure they are updating any at home products accordingly to any lifestyle changes, traveling and skin concerns, thus keeping skin at its ideal.

As your skin is a living organ; it’s vital to look after your skin, you only get one!  It takes about 30 days (this process slows as we get older) for the cells to move up from the dermis to the surface, where they eventually flatten out, die and slough off.

Having a skin care treatment stimulates the exfoliation process, thus keeping your skin toned, plump and youthful-looking. If you cannot commit to every 4-6 weeks then try for seasonal changes, because during this time your skin will have different requirements.

Should you expect downtime from a Dermastamp treatment?

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last from 12 to 24 hours on average. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend topical healing minerals + hyaluronic acid to help hydrate the skin. Zinc sun protection is also recommended

What happens during a facial?

Firstly we will start with a though skin consultation. You’ll be required to fill out a form and your skin therapist may ask you questions and test your skin with an identitest.

Then your skin therapist with cleanse your face and decolletage a couple of times, using a cleanser and cotton pads with eye makeup remover. Followed with steam from a vapor, to open your pores, relax your skin and soften any blackheads and whiteheads that maybe removed.

Exfoliation, the process of removing dead skin cells either with a mechanical or chemical exfoliating. Extractions, is the removal of blackheads or whiteheads if you want or require it.

Once the exfoliation and extractions processes have been completed and relaxing and calming massage will be performed using long, slow movements.

After the massage a facial mask is applied to your skin, chosen for your skin type and condition. Once the mask has been applied your skin therapist will give you a scalp massage or some other service to further relax and pamper you.

Once the facial mask has been removed you’ll have a serum, a moisturiser and if necessary an SPF applied. Finally your skin therapist might make suggestions on how you could take better care of your skin and recommend products.

What is a facial?

A facial or a skin care treatment is a great way to take care of your skin and be advised of the right products for your skin type and or concerns. It’s also very relaxing.

What should use on my skin afterward a Dermastamp treatment?

Only use a soothing cleanser to clean, hyaluronic acid to help hydrate as your skin will become very dry. Copper + Zinc to help heal and protect.

What should you avoid afterward a Dermstamp treatment?

You must avoid AHA’s, retinol (vitamin A) or anything acidic or ‘active’ for a minimum of 2 days

Why do I need home products?

Put simply ‘there is no point having a beautiful facial with a skin therapist at your beck and call whom can give you a correct diagnose of your skin, if you’re going to ruin the efforts and expense by either using the incorrect products or worse none at all at home.
